DPR Legislator Condemns Fatal Vigilante Attack in Tabanan, Urges Public to Stop Taking Law into Own Hands
A member of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III, I Wayan Sudirta, has spoken out against the alleged mob attack that resulted in the death of a man identified by the initials KD in Tabanan Regency, Bali. The attack reportedly occurred after KD was accused of stealing chickens in Desa Juuklegi, Tabanan. Police have so far named five individuals as suspects in the case.
Sudirta stressed that the public should report any legal violations to law enforcement officials to ensure matters are handled properly, thereby restoring public peace and order. “If a legal violation occurs, report it to law enforcement. The public should not become emotional and provoked into taking matters into their own hands, which can result in loss of life,” he said in a statement on Wednesday, 29 July 2026.
The legislator from the PDI Perjuangan faction urged law enforcement, particularly the police, to investigate the case professionally and fairly so that all parties can accept the legal process. “Law enforcement officials, especially the police, must act firmly and as fairly as possible towards all parties, so that the public understands the legal steps being taken,” he added.
During the occasion, Sudirta also handed over educational assistance for the deceased’s children, which was received directly by his youngest daughter, Keysia, accompanied by her mother and uncle, Made Parta. He emphasised that his presence was not intended to justify the deceased’s alleged actions, but rather to show concern for the family left behind and to encourage collective introspection to prevent similar tragedies. “We are not here to legitimise any unlawful acts, but we all need to introspect, to distance ourselves from negative actions that violate the law, so that no more lives are lost like this,” he stated.
He expressed hope that the aid would help support the education of KD’s children, noting that education is a vital foundation for the younger generation to build a better future. “Hopefully this can help the education of the children left behind. Because through education, the hope for a better future can be built with enthusiasm,” he added. Sudirta concluded that the tragedy serves as a reminder that the government, law enforcement, and the community must collectively build legal awareness to prevent further incidents of vigilantism.
