DPR Legislative Committee Explains Functions and Role of Indonesia One Data Agency
A member of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Legislative Committee, Daniel Johan, has explained the Draft Law on Indonesia One Data (SDI), which has now entered the discussion phase within the formulation and synchronisation teams. Daniel Johan noted that the Draft Law includes specific provisions regarding the establishment of the Indonesia One Data Agency.
“The spirit is similar to the Agrarian Reform Agency. One of the major issues in the context of data is sectoral ego. Each ministry has its own data, and each sector has its own data. This is now being regulated, orchestrated, coordinated, and collected by this Indonesia One Data Agency,” said Daniel Johan at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday (2/10/2026).
Daniel Johan stated that data publication will eventually be unified and strengthened through legislative products. He mentioned that all data in Indonesia will be spearheaded by the Indonesia One Data Agency.
“What has existed so far lacks a formal law, as it was only regulated by Presidential Regulation, so this is intended to strengthen it. Eventually, all ministries will follow, and everything will be orchestrated by the SDI. Everyone will comply so that there are no longer duplicate datasets, but rather one single data source,” he said.
Daniel Johan noted that the structure of the SDI will be led by a Head of Agency. However, the final refinement of the agency’s structure remains under the authority of the President of Indonesia.
“There will be a structure led by a Head. Although we leave that to the President, the agency will lead and coordinate closely with Bappenas (the National Development Planning Agency). Specifically, with the Minister of Bappenas,” he added.
Daniel emphasised that the data released by the SDI will be open to the public. However, he noted that crucial data related to national defence and security must be handled with caution.
“What cannot be accessed is data concerning defence and security that is classified as secret. General data, however, will be accessible. One of the regulations will also govern how the public can access this information,” said Daniel Johan.
“It will be open; in fact, it will be made easier,” he added.
The Chairperson of the PKB party stated that the substance of the List of Problems (DIM) for the SDI Draft Law has been completed. It is targeted that this Draft Law will be passed into law by Tuesday (6/10/2026).
“If all the substance is finished, it is now just down to the formulation and synchronisation teams. Hopefully, if everything goes smoothly, a decision will be made on Monday so it can be brought to the plenary session and enacted as law on Tuesday. At the very least, we shall see during this session,” he concluded.
