DPR Legislative Body Ensures Copyright Bill Will Be Completed by 17 December 2026
The DPR Legislative Body (Baleg) and the government have held discussions regarding the Copyright Bill. During the meeting, it was agreed that the Copyright Bill would be completed no later than 17 December 2026.
This certainty was conveyed by the Chairman of the DPR Legislative Body, Bob Hasan, at the Baleg office in Jakarta on Tuesday (6/10/2026). He initially presented a discussion plan for the List of Problem Inventories (DIM) for the Copyright Bill, which was originally scheduled to begin on Wednesday (7/10/2026).
“Does this proposed schedule—covering 6 October, 7 October, 8 October, and 26-30 October, while also accounting for working visits, and 2-6 November for further visits—can be approved for the next session?” Bob asked.
Deputy Minister of Law, Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej, interrupted Bob, apologising because the government could not yet begin discussions on 7 October.
“Chairman, I apologise because the leading sector is within the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. From 7 to 10 October, we will be attending the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) session in Bali, involving 50 countries. As the host, the Director General in charge of this matter will be in Bali,” said Eddy.
“So, it cannot start tomorrow?” Bob asked.
“It cannot start yet, I apologise,” replied Eddy.
“So, it will be after the recess?” Bob followed up.
“Yes, after the recess,” replied Bob.
Bob noted that there was no issue with the Copyright Bill’s DIM discussions only commencing after the recess. However, he emphasised that the Copyright Bill must be finalised by 17 December 2026 at the latest.
“Okay, so regarding the 7th, what is written here is still tentative and subject to change, but fundamentally, the completion must be no later than 17 December 2026,” Bob asserted.
“Understood, Chairman,” replied Eddy.
“Regarding the meeting schedule, is it agreed upon?” Bob asked.
“Agreed,” the meeting forum responded.
