JAKARTA, Kompas.com - The leadership of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) received an audience with a mass of workers holding an action to commemorate International Labour Day or May Day 2026 in front of the DPR RI building, Jakarta, on Friday (1/5/2026).

Based on observations by Kompas.com, several representatives of workers, civil society organisations, and students who joined the Gerakan Buruh Bersama Rakyat (Gebrak) movement were allowed to enter the parliamentary complex.

In the audience, the workers’ mass was received by Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI Sufmi Dasco Ahmad and Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal.

Also present were the leadership and members of DPR Commission IX, which handles labour affairs, namely Puti Sari and Onok Tabroni.

Earlier, the workers’ mass began arriving at the DPR RI building area in Senayan, Central Jakarta.

They were seen wearing blue and red attributes and carrying banners and posters.

General Chairman of KASBI Sunarno said the action in front of the DPR building was held together with the Aliansi Gerakan Buruh Bersama Rakyat (Gebrak), and differed from the May Day Fiesta event held at Monas.

“Today we are holding an action at the DPR building together with friends from the Aliansi Gerakan Buruh Bersama Rakyat (Gebrak). It is indeed different from the action organised at Monas with the theme May Day Fiesta,” said Sunarno at the location.

Sunarno stated that the action was held to urge the DPR and the government to immediately improve labour policies, especially after the Constitutional Court decision regarding the Job Creation Law.

He added that the discussion of labour laws is important because it relates to workers’ rights, such as the wage system, severance pay, and employment relationship status.
