Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Saan Mustopa is confident that the rupiah will strengthen after President Prabowo Subianto presented the Macro Economic Framework and the Main Principles of Fiscal Policy (KEM-PPKF) for the 2027 RAPBN in the DPR plenary meeting on Wednesday morning, 20 May 2026.

According to Saan, the optimism about rupiah appreciation is reflected in the various economic indicators that Prabowo presented in the session.

‘Well, that shows, based on what the President said with the indicators mentioned, it also signals optimism that our Rupiah will strengthen. I am confident,’ Saan said at a press conference at the DPR building, on Wednesday.

‘That today there are fluctuations related to the Rupiah and shares, in my view, normal, ordinary,’ he added.

The Nasdem Party politician said the government has prepared anticipatory steps to curb rupiah weakness and the decline in the Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG).

‘But I am confident the government has anticipated, has prepared steps to prevent a decline in the Rupiah against the dollar, and also the IHSG index; those steps have been prepared and going forward God willing will hold and begin to recover,’ Saan said.

He noted that the presentation reflects an economic patriotism spirit, referring to Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution.

‘Yes, what the President conveyed regarding the macroeconomic framework and the main policy directions of fiscal policy. That first signals a spirit of heroism and patriotism, referencing Article 33,’ Saan explained.

According to him, Prabowo’s direct articulation of the government’s macroeconomic and fiscal policy direction in the DPR also demonstrates the government’s seriousness in building the national economy.

‘Therefore, the delivery of the KEM and the main fiscal policy directions by the President is a sign of the government’s seriousness, in this case the President, to build our economy next year,’ he concluded.

In the agenda, Prabowo became the first president to directly present the government’s macroeconomic and fiscal policy directions in the DPR.

In addition to listening to the government presentation on the KEM-PPKF for the 2027 RAPBN, the plenary session of the DPR also discussed the evaluation of changes to the second National Legislation Program (Prolegnas) Priority Bills 2026 and heard views from factions regarding the Polri Bill proposed by Commission III of the DPR.
