DPR Leaders Expect Rupiah to Strengthen After Prabowo's Speech on the KEM PPKF

Jakarta — Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI, Saan Mustopa, believes the rupiah will strengthen after President Prabowo Subianto delivered his address on the Macro-Economic Framework and Key Fiscal Policy Provisions (KEM PPKF) for the 2027 State Budget in a DPR plenary session on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. Mustopa said the optimism was evident from the various economic indicators Prabowo outlined in his speech. ‘That, taken from what the President stated with the indicators mentioned, signals optimism that our rupiah will strengthen,’ he told reporters at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. He noted that fluctuations in the rupiah and in shares over recent times are normal. ‘I am confident there are fluctuations related to the rupiah and the shares. In my view, that is normal,’ he said. Nevertheless, Mustopa said the government had prepared various steps to respond to the development. ‘But I am confident the government has anticipated and prepared steps to prevent a depreciation of the rupiah against the dollar, as well as the Jakarta Composite Stock Index; those steps ahead are expected to hold and begin to recover, God willing,’ Mustopa concluded.
