DPR Leader Urges Registration of Domestic Workers Following Enactment of PPRT Law
Jakarta - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal has urged the government to immediately conduct a registration of domestic workers (PRT), following the enactment of the Domestic Workers Protection Law (UU PPRT).
The PKB politician stated that this step is crucial to ensure that the protections and social security rights outlined in the law are truly implemented and targeted effectively.
“Without an adequate database, the state will struggle to ensure who is protected, who works through placement agencies, who works independently, and how supervision is carried out in case of violations,” Cucun said in his official statement on Wednesday (22/4/2026).
Therefore, Cucun continued, the government must be able to translate the regulations into simple and easily understandable mechanisms for the public, both for PRT and employers.
“The government must be able to translate the UU PPRT into simple mechanisms that are easy to understand and do not cause social resistance at the household level,” he added.
Cucun stressed that the enactment of the UU PPRT should not be viewed merely as a victory.
Because the most important thing is to ensure that the legal norms in the policy are effectively implemented in practice.
In addition, he also called for cross-ministerial coordination in the implementation of the UU PPRT.
Because the issue of domestic workers is also related to women’s and children’s protection, population administration, and complaint services at the local level.
For this reason, Cucun assured that the DPR will continue to monitor the implementation of the UU PPRT so that the protection that has long been delayed can truly be felt by domestic workers.
“The enactment of the UU PPRT must be read not as the end of the discussion, but as the beginning of the state’s work to ensure that protection is truly present in everyday life,” Cucun concluded.
Initially, the Chairman of the DPR’s Legislation Body (Baleg), Bob Hasan, reported on the discussion of the PPRT Bill to date.
