DPR Immediately Conducts Fit and Proper Test Following Presidential Nomination for New National Police Chief
Commissioner General Pol Suyudi Ario Seto has been proposed by President Prabowo Subianto as the candidate for National Police Chief. Suyudi, who currently serves as the Head of the National Narcotics Board (BNN), was proposed by Prabowo via a presidential letter to the DPR to undergo a fit and proper test to replace General Listyo Sigit.
The Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, Habiburokhman, stated that the commission will conduct the fit and proper test for the National Police Chief candidate today, Thursday (1/10). As of approximately 9:20 WIB, Suyudi was observed seated and prepared to undergo the evaluation at the DPR Commission III office.
“This morning, the DPR leadership received a letter from the President dated 30 September regarding the proposal for dismissal from office and appointment to the position of National Police Chief,” said Habiburokhman on Thursday morning.
Habiburokhman noted that Commission III intends to hear Suyudi’s vision, mission, and key points of interest. “You will have a maximum of 10 minutes; please proceed,” Habiburokhman added.
Suyudi was previously inaugurated by Prabowo as the Head of the BNN on 25 August 2025, succeeding the former Head of the BNN, Commissioner General Pol Martinus Hukom.
According to Antara, Suyudi, born in Jakarta on 14 July 1973, is a 1994 graduate of the Police Academy (Akpol). Throughout his career, Suyudi has held various criminal investigation and structural positions, primarily in Jakarta.
Early in his career, he served as the Unit II Mobile Reserse (Resmob) Officer for the Metro Jaya Regional Police. He also served as the Head of Criminal Investigation for the West Jakarta Metro Police, the South Jakarta Metro Police, and as a Mobile Reserse Unit Officer for the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri).
His career progressed to police chief roles, including serving as the Chief of Tanah Abang Metro Police in 201019s 2012, followed by the Penjaringan Metro Police. His responsibilities continued to expand, serving as Police Chief for Majalengka (2014-2017), Bogor, Bogor City, and Central Jakarta Metro Police.
From 2017, Suyudi held positions within Bareskrim Polri, including Deputy Director of the Special Economic Crimes Directorate and Deputy Director of the Cyber Crime Directorate. In 2023, he was appointed Deputy Chief of Metro Jaya Regional Police, and in 2024, he served as the Chief of Banten Regional Police.
His tenure in that role was brief. In 2025, he was transferred to a position within Bareskrim Polri before being appointed as the Head of the BNN, the position he holds currently as he is proposed by Prabowo for the National Police Chief role.
