The Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani has highlighted the various impacts of the conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran. Puan stated that the conflict will affect global economic stability, including Indonesia’s economy.

Several aspects will be affected, according to Puan, including oil prices, transportation tariffs, commodity prices, the rupiah’s exchange rate against the US dollar, supply chains, economic growth and fiscal resilience in implementing development programmes.

“In such an economic situation, at the same time the public must continue to have great expectations that the state will be present in creating employment opportunities,” said Puan at the Opening of the Fourth Parliamentary Session 2025-2026 at the parliament complex in Senayan, South Jakarta on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

The Chairman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) also stated that the legislature will continue to monitor the fiscal capacity of the 2026 state budget to maintain public welfare. Puan emphasised that the government’s budgetary policy must maintain fiscal resilience so that public welfare can be assured.

During the same occasion, Puan expressed condolences over the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The statement was conveyed by Puan at the Opening of the Fourth Parliamentary Session 2025-2026.

“On behalf of the leadership and members of the Indonesian House of Representatives, we extend our deepest condolences over the passing of His Excellency Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who fell in a military attack by Israel and the United States against Iranian territory on 28 February 2026,” said Puan.

She stated that Indonesia is a nation that upholds the principles of independence, perpetual peace and social justice. Therefore, Puan expressed deep sympathy to all Iranians who are currently facing difficult times.

“The DPR RI supports every diplomatic effort and initiative, whether conducted bilaterally, regionally or multilaterally, to encourage all parties to exercise restraint and avoid broader escalation of the conflict,” said Puan.
