DPR Hearing with Jababeka Representatives Heats Up – What Happened
Jakarta, VIVA – Deputy Chairman of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Bambang Haryadi, took firm action by expelling representatives of PT Jababeka Tbk from a Consultative Meeting (RDP) and Public Consultative Meeting (RDPU) of the Environmental Working Committee at the Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday 7 September 2026.
The meeting was held to follow up on a complaint from PT Mastertama Adhi Propertindo (MAP) regarding problems with industrial waste pipes produced by PT Jababeka Tbk.
The drastic step was taken because PT Jababeka Tbk was deemed to be belittling the legislature. Jababeka once again failed to bring the President Director of PT Jababeka Tbk, Setyono Djuandi Darmono, and instead sent the President Director of Jababeka Infrastruktur (a subsidiary), Didik Purbadi.
Bambang emphasised that this was the second time Jababeka’s management had dodged an official summons from the DPR, represented only by subsidiary-level officials.
“Yes, it was Jababeka Tbk that we invited. That’s twice now. We invited them before, and this was the second invitation. At this second invitation, only the subsidiary turned up. As if we don’t matter at all. We are problem solvers, we want to find middle ground, but they treat us as if we mean nothing,” Bambang fumed.
In a harsh tone, Bambang criticised Jababeka management’s seemingly arrogant attitude, borne of a belief that they enjoy the backing of board members and commissioners with powerful backgrounds.
“Just because their chief commissioner is a former Head of the National Police Criminal Investigation Department, and the younger brother of Ahok (Basuri Tjahaja Purnama). Do you think we matter? What matters here is law enforcement. They shouldn’t act as if they’re so mighty,” asserted the Gerindra politician.
Beyond the absence of the top leadership, Bambang also revealed a fatal irregularity regarding findings of manipulated environmental laboratory data in the case being handled by the Commission XII Working Committee together with the Environmental Law Enforcement Agency (BPLH) under the Ministry of Environment.
He assessed that the alteration of laboratory results constituted a grave violation and degraded Indonesia’s law enforcement system.
“This is an insult. Imagine, laboratory results can be altered — even the Deputy for Environmental Law Enforcement (Irjen. Pol. Rizal Irawan) was baffled. It puts the laboratory at stake. In my view, Jababeka Tbk thinks it is the greatest, the strongest, untouchable by the law, and free to oppress the people beneath it,” Bambang said.
