DPR Hajj Supervisory Team Urges Service Improvements for Elderly Pilgrims
Jakarta, Kompas.com — Rieke Diah Pitaloka, a member of the Hajj Supervisory Team (Timwas) of the DPR, has urged improvements in services for elderly pilgrims. She found that several services and facilities were not friendly to elderly pilgrims.
Firstly, in accommodation, where she observed regular pilgrims, for the first time, staying in five-star hotels in the Markaziyah area. ‘Previously this was only for special pilgrims. This is a significant leap,’ said the PDI-P politician.
Secondly, she cited that the queue for examinations remains long, especially during peak times. The number of medical staff needs to be increased at peak arrival times.
Thirdly, she urged improvements in hospital referral coordination, noting that the administrative process for referrals from KKHI to Saudi Arabian hospitals still takes too long in emergencies.
Fourthly, health education for the elderly. Awareness campaigns on dehydration prevention and fatigue are not yet evenly distributed, especially for pilgrims with language barriers.
A second advance is in the immigration section and the Jeddah Consulate-General, showing that the achievement of zero SPLP (Surat Perjalanan Laksana Paspor) issuances is a record in history.
Thirdly, the Murur and Tanazul programme. This policy effectively reduces crowding at Muzdalifah and protects elderly pilgrims as well as those at high risk,’ said Rieke.
Fourthly, transport. Intercity buses, 24-hour Shalawat buses, and Masyair buses operate on schedule with proactive staff.
