The 2026 Hajj Oversight Team (Timwas Haji) of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), led by Deputy Speaker Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, departed from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport for the Holy Land on Saturday, 16 April 2026. The primary objective of this first delegation is to conduct direct inspections to ensure the realisation of service commitments previously agreed upon by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj).

Cucun stated that field inspections will cover various crucial aspects directly affecting pilgrim comfort. “We will ensure that everything experienced by pilgrims in Madinah, regarding both accommodation and catering, is thoroughly checked,” said Cucun.

Furthermore, he explained that the DPR Hajj Oversight Team will cross-reference actual conditions with the agreements made during the Working Committee (Panja) meetings. Key focus areas include the capacity of pilgrim placement per room and the distance from hotels to places of worship in both Madinah and Makkah.

“This includes the ministry’s commitments made during the Panja meetings, such as the specific number of pilgrims per room and the distance of hotels in Madinah,” he clarified.

In addition to accommodation, managing Indonesian pilgrims remaining in Madinah due to illness is a priority for the 2026 Oversight Team. Upon arrival, the team will coordinate with the Madinah Working Office (Daker Madinah) to evaluate the scheme for transporting sick pilgrims to Makkah.

“I am departing today with the first team, accompanied by members of the Working Committee and colleagues from Commission VIII. There are many matters to discuss in the Madinah Working Office, particularly regarding pilgrims from previous groups who remain behind due to illness,” said Cucun.

He explained that the Oversight Team will ensure the safest evacuation methods for these pilgrims. “We will check how many must be transported via ambulance or whether they can be included in subsequent groups. For instance, those who have recovered sufficiently may be integrated into the final departure group heading to Makkah,” he added.

Additionally, the DPR Oversight Team will assess the readiness of the Madinah Working Office for the next operational phase, which involves welcoming the return of the second wave of pilgrims following the completion of the Hajj pilgrimage in Makkah. “We must ensure whether all equipment, personnel, and accommodation in the Madinah Working Office are fully prepared.”
