DPR Hajj Oversight Team Pleased with Improved 2026 Pilgrimage Facilities
Bambang Haryo Soekartono (BHS), a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives’ Hajj Oversight Team, assessed that the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage operations have improved compared to previous years following his direct inspection of facilities used by Indonesian pilgrims in Mina, Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
Improvements are evident in accommodation, healthcare, catering, and accessibility for elderly pilgrims. During his on-site inspection in Mina, BHS noted that the location of regular pilgrims’ tents (maktab) this year is relatively closer to the Jamarat area compared to previous years.
Additionally, golf cart services are available to assist elderly, female, and physically challenged pilgrims in moving to worship sites, enhancing their mobility.
‘Even the farthest regular pilgrim tents remain relatively close to Jamarat. Golf cart services are also provided for elderly and women unable to walk long distances, adding value to this year’s Hajj services,’ BHS said in a press release on 1 June 2026.
In terms of accommodation, BHS stated that pilgrims are provided with comfortable facilities in Mina. Tents are equipped with air conditioning, adequate beds, and appropriate capacity for the number of occupants, ensuring comfort during rest.
Furthermore, BHS inspected the sanitation facilities. He noted that the number of toilets and bathrooms is sufficient to serve thousands of pilgrims in the area. ‘Each cubicle is equipped with a shower, and there are plenty of them. With the available capacity, these facilities can adequately serve around 4,000 pilgrims from 120 cubicles,’ he said.
