DPR Hajj Oversight Team Conducts Surprise Inspection on Cleanliness and Food Quality at Makkah Catering Kitchen
JAKARTA — The DPR Hajj Oversight Team conducted a surprise inspection of a hajj catering kitchen, checking cleanliness and food taste.
“We specifically went to Almusafirun kitchen because it’s the furthest from Al-Hidayah Hotel, about 12 kilometres. We want to ensure food quality is maintained and distribution is on time despite the distance,” said Ansory Siregar, Deputy Chairman of Commission VIII of the DPR and member of the Hajj Oversight Team, in a statement on Monday (25 May 2026).
The inspected catering kitchen is Almusafirun, which supplies meals for Indonesian hajj pilgrims at Al-Hidayah Hotel in Makkah.
Four catering kitchens are within a 2.5-kilometre radius of the hotel, while two others are located 10 to 12 kilometres away.
The PKS politician emphasised that distance should not be an excuse for reduced service quality for Indonesian pilgrims.
He said hygiene and timely distribution must be the top priority for all catering vendors.
“We appreciate the current good service. However, given the 12-kilometre distance, we remind kitchen management to maintain work rhythm, on-time distribution, and strict hygiene,” he added.
The oversight team also discussed food delivery mechanisms with kitchen management to ensure meals remain suitable for consumption upon arrival.
The DPR Hajj Oversight Team conducted food tasting of the menu served to Indonesian pilgrims.
They sampled rice and side dishes produced by Almusafirun Kitchen to confirm the taste aligns with Indonesian pilgrims’ preferences.
“The inspection results show the food is good and suits Indonesian pilgrims’ palates. This is important as meals are a key factor in pilgrims’ comfort during worship,” he said.
