DPR: Future Colonisation Could Occur Through AI Monopoly

Jakarta, VIVA – Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), I Wayan Sudirta, has questioned the extent to which Indonesia has truly achieved sovereignty, justice, and prosperity after 81 years of independence.

According to Wayan, the commemoration of the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia with the theme “Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia” should not merely be a ceremonial celebration, but a moment to evaluate the nation’s journey.

However, he questioned whether this theme has truly been felt by the approximately 280 million Indonesian people or whether it remains merely a slogan echoed anew every August.

“Has that theme become a reality breathed by its 280 million people, or is it still an empty slogan recycled every August?” said Wayan in Jakarta on Monday, 17 August 2026.

Philosophically, he said, independence is not the finish line. Independence is the gateway to building civilisation, in keeping with the spirit of the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution.

He observed that the form of the struggle to defend independence has now changed. According to him, the nation’s enemies today no longer come from across the seas with warships, but are born from the womb of the Motherland itself.

“They take shelter behind the tables of power, hide in the crevices of regulations, hold policies hostage for the sake of oligarchic interests, and drain the nation’s wealth that should be the capital for the people’s welfare,” said the member of the PDI Perjuangan faction.

Currently, Wayan stressed that the struggle encompasses efforts to combat sectoral egoism, structural ignorance, entrenched corruption, and betrayal of the constitution.

“Defending independence today means defending the sanity and rights of the people from the grip of those who wish to sell this country for the sake of dynastic power and corporate profit,” explained the legislator from the Bali electoral district.

He assessed that sovereignty is being tested today. A nation cannot be called sovereign if its land is stripped bare by multinational corporations, while the people around it continue to live below the poverty line and inherit environmental damage.

“Furthermore, justice is not only about the equal distribution of toll roads or bridges, but about equal access to legal and economic justice. Today, we still witness how the law can be bought, manipulated, and applied selectively,” he stated.
