The Indonesian Artificial Intelligence Research and Innovation Collaboration (Korika) revealed that 83.6% of Indonesians are already using artificial intelligence (AI).

Korika’s Secretary General, Oskar Riandi, stated that the data shows widespread AI adoption in Indonesia.

“This is the reality we see on the ground; various statistics show we’re already using AI extensively. 83.6% of the public uses AI, for example, ChatGPT,” Riandi said during a public hearing by the Digital Space Working Committee of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, as cited from TVR Parlemen’s YouTube broadcast on Monday, 25 May 2026.

This indicates that younger generations will increasingly interact with AI in the future.

However, Riandi highlighted that only 61% of people have a basic understanding of AI.

“Most people, 90% or 83.6%, are merely ‘takers’—using AI only for daily needs,” Riandi said.

Looking ahead, he hopes for a transformation in AI usage from mere users to those who leverage it for their professions.

“So we hope for a transformation from Komdigi, reducing ‘takers’ to ‘savers’ and ‘makers’,” Riandi said.

This is especially relevant regarding information speed and potential threats to national data security.

“Strategies for developing technological sovereignty and local AI, along with AI ethics and protecting the public from potential risks,” Sukamta said.
