The Vice Chairman of the DPR RI and Chairman of the DPR RI Disaster Management Oversight Team (Timwas), Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, led a specific cross-commission working visit to Mbay, Nagekeo Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Friday (2/10/2026).

The purpose of this visit was to ensure the effectiveness of disaster management, the distribution of aid, and the acceleration of post-disaster infrastructure reconstruction in the NTT region. The Oversight Team also encouraged cross-sector collaboration to speed up the recovery process.

The DPR RI Disaster Oversight Team delegation was directly welcomed by the Regent of Nagekeo, Simplisius Donatus, along with regional heads from across mainland Flores, including the Vice Regents of Ngada and Ende, the Nagekeo Regency Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), as well as hundreds of local residents and families receiving government stimulus aid.

In his remarks, Cucun emphasised that the presence of the Oversight Team represents the DPR RI’s commitment to oversight, ensuring the state’s presence among disaster-affected communities. He highlighted the importance of data integration and the coordination of programmes across ministries to ensure that economic and infrastructure recovery processes are precisely targeted.

“We are here with a complete formation across commissions, alongside ministerial and agency partners. The recovery of NTT cannot be done partially; it must be tackled collectively through cross-sector collaboration. All aspects, ranging from the repair of roads and bridges, the readiness of health facilities, social assistance, the rehabilitation of places of worship, to the recovery of educational facilities, must move simultaneously,” said Cucun during a meeting held in an emergency tent.

This working visit included strategic partners from the central government to directly match field requirements. Present during the visit were the Deputy Minister of Public Works (PU), representatives from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos), the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag), the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasme), and the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) to ensure the validity of target management data.

During the occasion, Cucun, along with the delegation and representatives from various ministries and agencies, symbolically handed over various aid packages to the community. The assistance included building materials for repairing houses damaged by the disaster, logistics packages for basic necessities, medical equipment, and aid for the recovery of places of worship and schools.

Specifically, the DPR RI Disaster Management Oversight Team also distributed aid for house building materials, the recovery of religious facilities, and operational assistance in the form of funds for labour costs.

Cucun stated that although the amount of labour cost assistance was modest, the presence of DPR RI members is expected to alleviate the burden on the community. This aid is also intended to accelerate light repair processes through self-help while awaiting the arrival of larger regular aid from the BNPB.

The DPR RI Disaster Management Oversight Team is committed to bringing all aspirations and field findings from Nagekeo Regency into working meetings in Jakarta. This step is taken to ensure that future budget allocations and disaster management regulations are increasingly focused on the safety and welfare of the people of NTT.
