DPR Deputy Speaker: Rp5 Million a Decent Figure for Teacher Welfare

Jakarta – Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission X, Lalu Hadrian, has affirmed that the commission has formulated a minimum decent figure for teacher welfare. He stated that Commission X has urged the government to provide decent wages or salaries for teachers.

Lalu said the calculation formulated by Commission X for teacher salaries is a minimum of Rp5 million. “We have calculated in Commission X, a minimum of Rp5 million is a decent figure or the most appropriate nominal for teacher welfare,” Lalu told reporters at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 24 June 2026.

“Therefore, despite this, we in Commission X continue to push for teacher salaries to truly increase according to a decent calculation,” he continued.

On the other hand, he appreciated President Prabowo’s speech explaining the reasons why teacher salaries in Indonesia have been difficult to raise. According to him, Prabowo wanted to convey to the public that the government is formulating the right formula to increase teacher salaries.

“Actually, it’s not that they haven’t risen, they have risen. But it is not yet optimal. So, the President wants to convey that the government is currently formulating the ideal salary amount for teachers,” he said.

He acknowledged that the government has prepared a budget to increase teacher salaries in the 2027 budget posture, including allowances for both civil servant (ASN) and non-civil servant teachers. “We have seen in the 2027 budget posture that there is good intention from the government to prepare a budget for increasing teacher salaries and allowances, both for ASN and non-ASN teachers,” he said.

Lalu is confident that President Prabowo will prioritise the quality of education and the welfare of all teachers in Indonesia. “We believe that our President has already thought about this, especially since he always says everywhere that teacher welfare is a priority,” he said.
