DPR Deputy Speaker Denies Rejecting Asset Forfeiture Bill, Says Public Input Still Being Gathered

Wakil Ketua DPR RI Sari Yuliati has dismissed reports suggesting the House of Representatives (DPR) is rejecting the deliberation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill related to criminal offences. Sari asserted that such information is false.

The statement was made during a plenary session at the parliament building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday. Sari clarified that the Asset Forfeiture Bill has, in fact, been included in the 2026 Priority National Legislation Programme (Prolegnas).

“In connection with the circulation on social media of untrue news or hoaxes stating that the DPR RI rejects the deliberation of the asset forfeiture bill related to criminal offences, we need to convey that the Asset Forfeiture Bill is included in the 2026 Priority Prolegnas,” Sari stated.

She explained that the bill is currently being discussed by the DPR’s Commission III. Sari added that the DPR continues to invite activists and students to gather their input.

“Currently, Commission III is in the drafting stage by collecting public input as part of meaningful public participation from various groups, such as the community, academics, practitioners, students, experts, institutions, and various other related parties,” she said.

Previously, Commission III of the DPR continued its deliberation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill. Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman stressed that his team would discuss the bill as thoroughly as possible.

This was conveyed during a Public Hearing Meeting (RDPU) with the Indonesian Advocates Association (Peradi). Habiburokhman dismissed the notion that Commission III is rejecting the discussion of the Asset Forfeiture Bill.

“We are going full throttle, turbo speed, in drafting the Asset Forfeiture Bill. So, it is not true if people say the DPR is rejecting the discussion of the Asset Forfeiture Bill. The fact is, we have invited the best advocates who truly understand law enforcement in Indonesia to provide their opinions,” Habiburokhman stated during the meeting at the parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday.

Habiburokhman confirmed that Commission III discusses the bill almost every day. The Gerindra Party deputy chairman noted that this deliberation is crucial because the Asset Forfeiture Bill is a new regulatory draft.
