DPR Deputy Speaker Dasco Receives Student Protest Aspirations, Will Forward to Government
Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, along with other DPR leaders and commission heads, received representatives of students demonstrating in front of the parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta. During the meeting, the DPR agreed to forward the students’ aspirations to the government.
“Today, the DPR leadership and commission heads have received the aspirations of our younger siblings, the students, from HMI MPO, Trisakti, Mercubuana, Esa Unggul, and several other campuses. In essence, they conveyed their aspirations to be forwarded to the government, and they also shared their aspirations with the DPR in the context of the DPR’s oversight function,” Dasco said after the audience at the parliamentary complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday (19/6/2026).
Dasco stated that the dialogue proceeded well. The DPR will open further communication channels with the students. “We communicated and interacted very well earlier, and because time was limited, we will communicate more with our friends, the students, in the future,” he said.
On the same occasion, a student representative from Trisakti University, Dhenni Ribowo, said the majority of the demands they brought were directed at the government as the policymaker. One of the issues raised was the scarcity of subsidised fuel.
“There were several things that were directly answered and perhaps some that were directly given solutions, but there is still some homework for which we await commitment,” he said. “One of them directly affects the public, which is the scarcity of subsidised fuel,” he continued.
He appreciated the DPR leadership’s initiative to immediately contact government officials regarding several issues raised by the students. However, he expressed hope that the government would produce results from the hearing as quickly as possible.
