DPR Deputy Speaker Dasco Hopes Annual Session and Joint Session Run Smoothly Today

Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has expressed hope that the MPR Annual Session and the DPR-DPD Joint Session (STSB) will run smoothly today. President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to deliver a state address and report on the performance of state institutions.

Based on monitoring by detikcom at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday (14/8/2026), Dasco arrived together with other Deputy Speakers of the DPR RI, namely Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, Saan Mustopa and Sari Yuliati. Dasco said a number of preparations had been made yesterday.

“Yes, this Annual Session is the president’s speech in the context of the 2027 State Budget (APBN). That is the first thing, and secondly we have checked readiness since yesterday, hopefully today it can run smoothly,” said Dasco.

Dasco said this year’s Annual Session and Joint Session would be shortened to accommodate the Friday prayer schedule. He also responded briefly regarding the special guests invited by President Prabowo to the 2026 Annual Session.

“If we look at readiness, we see that there is nothing different except that some parts have been shortened because we are chasing the Friday prayer time,” he said.

“As for the eight special guests, I don’t quite remember their names, but they can be seen later,” he said.

Previously, Speaker of the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin said the MPR Annual Session and the DPR-DPD Joint Session (STSB) carried the tagline ‘Strong Regions, Sovereign Indonesia’. Sultan said preparations for the Annual Session were complete.

“There have been rehearsals, the first and second rehearsals, yesterday was the dress rehearsal and the final rehearsal has just finished as part of the series of the Annual Session and Joint Session. So preparations are more than 90 percent complete, it can be said to be finished because all relevant stakeholders have been involved, from the State Secretariat, the Palace, and also the Presidential Security Force (Paspampres),” said Sultan.

He urged every people’s representative to maintain ethics and decorum. He expressed hope that the Joint Session would proceed smoothly and solemnly.

“The MPR consists of the DPR and the DPD. As members of parliament, as representatives of the people, it is only proper that we maintain ethics and decorum. But beyond that, personally we must also uphold it,” said Sultan.

“So we hope that this Annual Session and Joint Session truly proceeds solemnly, in an orderly, safe and smooth manner because this is part of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. So even though it is festive, it remains solemn,” he added.
