Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal has provided aid to 1,448 orphans at 12 points in his electoral district, West Java II, which covers Bandung Regency and West Bandung Regency. “The spirit of sharing today is no longer merely a choice, but an urgent social necessity. Amidst various life challenges, many of our brothers and sisters still need a helping hand,” said Cucun in a confirmed statement in Jakarta on Thursday. Cucun made the statement after providing aid to thousands of orphans to mark the occasion of Ashura, or 10 Muharram 1448 Hijriah. Separately, he inaugurated the renovation of an uninhabitable house (rutilahu) belonging to a resident in Cipedes Village, Bandung. According to him, the inauguration of the rutilahu underscores that the advocacy work of people’s representatives does not only target the fulfilment of short-term social needs, but also aspects of improving the quality of housing infrastructure for the lower classes. “The aid and the rutilahu house renovation programme we inaugurated today are part of a political commitment to presence, namely ensuring that the state and its leaders are always close to the people, especially those in need,” he said. He expressed hope that the aid movement and rutilahu repairs could serve as an inspiration and spark a wider wave of social solidarity in various regions. “Therefore, I invite all elements of society who have excess fortune not to delay doing good. The more people share, the stronger the social bonds and brotherhood within society will be,” he stated.
