The Chair of Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Lasarus, has urged the Ministry of Housing and Settlement to tighten supervision of the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) programme. He stressed that funds must not be disbursed if physical work has not been carried out on the ground. “Because this BSPS programme is so well-received, I ask that we minimise and avoid things we do not want. Please ensure the readiness criteria are met,” Lasarus said during a hearing with Echelon I officials of the Ministry of PKP on Thursday (25/6/2026). He insisted that all assistance be distributed according to regulations and based on strict verification. According to him, irregularities in the public housing programme cannot be tolerated. “If it hasn’t been implemented, don’t disburse the money. It’s clear the work hasn’t been done, yet the money is disbursed. If it’s not in accordance, don’t disburse the funds,” he asserted. Regional office heads play a crucial role in overseeing programme implementation. The larger the BSPS target to be executed by the government, the greater the supervisory challenges that must be faced. Therefore, evaluation of implementing officials must be carried out firmly. “Those caught disbursing money without any physical progress, just replace the head of the office. They are not performing. They make it difficult for all of us,” Lasarus said. He expressed hope that all ranks of the Ministry of PKP would ensure the assistance is truly received by communities in need and results in tangible house construction. “I am sure everyone in this room does not want a programme where the money is disbursed but the house does not exist. So that this programme is genuinely received by the people who need it,” he concluded. BSPS is a government funding support programme for low-income communities aimed at improving the quality of and constructing new self-help houses based on mutual cooperation. Citing the official website of the Ministry of PKP, the regular BSPS assistance value is Rp20 million per unit, consisting of Rp17.5 million for the purchase of building materials and Rp2.5 million for labourers’ wages. Specifically for the Papua and North Maluku regions, the regular assistance value reaches Rp25 million per unit. Meanwhile, for mountainous areas, small islands, and outermost regions in Papua and North Maluku, assistance is provided up to Rp40 million per unit.
