DPR: Crackdown on 'Ordered Bride' Human Trafficking Saves National Dignity
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Habiburokhman, has stated that cracking down on the criminal act of trafficking in persons (TPPO) using the ‘ordered bride’ modus operandi can save the dignity of the nation’s children from human exploitation and violence.
Speaking in Jakarta on Sunday, Habiburokhman said that TPPO using this method follows an organised pattern, so enforcement must be carried out firmly.
He expressed appreciation to the Directorate of Crimes Against Women and Children and Trafficking in Persons (PPA-PPO) of the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) for uncovering the case.
‘This proves the National Police’s real commitment to upholding the principle of zero tolerance towards all forms of sexual violence and human trafficking,’ said Habiburokhman.
He assured that Commission III of the DPR would continue to oversee the legal process of the case to ensure it proceeds transparently and provides a deterrent effect.
Habiburokhman also encouraged the authorities to strengthen trauma recovery for victims and urged the public to rise and speak up, reporting any acts of violence they experience.
In addition to handling TPPO with the ‘ordered bride’ modus operandi, he appreciated the investigation of other sexual violence cases, including a case involving five female sport climbing athletes as victims of alleged sexual violence by a former head coach with the initials HB.
According to him, the enforcement action against HB shows that law enforcement does not regard status, position, power relations, or sporting achievements.
‘The proper application of the TPKS Law is a form of progressive legal protection,’ he said.
Habiburokhman also appreciated the National Police’s efforts to repatriate Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry (SAM), a suspect in the alleged molestation of five male victims, to Indonesia through Interpol cooperation.
SAM has been placed on the wanted list (DPO), while an Interpol Red Notice for the suspect has been issued since 9 July 2026.
‘We in Commission III are ready to support coordination between ministries and agencies so that the repatriation process of the perpetrator can be realised promptly for the sake of justice for the victims,’ he said.
Previously, the Directorate of PPA-PPO of Bareskrim Polri handled five TPPO cases using the ‘ordered bride’ modus operandi that occurred between 2024 and 2025, with locations in Indonesia and Guangzhou, China.
In carrying out this scheme, the suspects allegedly offered victims a more decent life if they agreed to marry foreign nationals from China.
However, after arriving in China, the victims reportedly experienced domestic violence from their husbands and had to manage households occupied by more than ten people.
