Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Bahtra Banong, stated that the provision of 1,098 Qurban cattle by President Prabowo Subianto, purchased using the national budget, is legally compliant. He explained this falls under the Presidential Social Assistance (Banmaspres) programme, which is officially allocated in the national budget. “This is not the President’s personal money claimed as private assistance,” Bahtra told journalists on Thursday, 28 May 2026. “This is a national social assistance programme, formally budgeted through the national budget to aid communities across various regions. No regulations have been breached,” he added. As the Gerindra party spokesperson, he clarified that the presidential Qurban purchases using the national budget are not exclusive to Prabowo’s administration. This policy was also implemented under previous presidents, including the sixth president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, and the seventh, Joko Widodo. “Previous administrations also provided presidential Qurban cattle distributed to various regions through state mechanisms facilitated by the Presidential Secretariat,” Bahtra said. Bahtra added that the Presidential Social Assistance programme also covers food aid, disaster relief, decent housing, healthcare, education, social assistance for the poor, and places of worship. “Therefore, there should be no narrative suggesting this programme is new,” he concluded. President Prabowo Subianto distributed 1,098 Qurban cattle for the 1447 Hijriah Eid al-Adha in 2026. The cattle were purchased using the Presidential Social Assistance budget. “The funding comes from the national budget via the presidential assistance budget, specifically the Presidential Social Assistance,” said Deputy Minister of the State Secretariat Juri Ardiantoro to journalists at the Presidential Palace complex in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. Ardiantoro stated the government allocated approximately Rp100 billion for the 1,098 cattle. “Cattle prices vary based on weight and location, so we adjust prices per region. The total expenditure is approximately Rp100 billion,” he added. Among the purchased cattle, Prabowo donated one Simmental bull weighing 1.3 tonnes to Istiqlal Mosque in Central Jakarta.
