DPR Condemns Alleged Intimidation of Doctor Icha by Regional Lawmakers
The Deputy Chair of Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Nihayatul Wafiroh, has strongly condemned the alleged intimidation carried out by two members of the North Central Timor Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), identified by the initials NT and TL, against Dr Eliza Princila Utami Pakaenoni, also known as Dr Icha.
“Anyone proven to have abused their position or power must be held accountable for their actions in accordance with the applicable law,” said the legislator, affectionately known as Ninik, in a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Sunday.
Furthermore, Ninik stated that intimidatory actions against healthcare workers are unjustifiable under any circumstances, including the case of Dr Icha, who was allegedly intimidated while treating a paediatric patient who had been bitten by a snake at Leona Kefamenanu Hospital, North Central Timor, on 13 June 2026.
“We all have a responsibility to ensure that healthcare workers can work safely and without pressure or intimidation,” said the legislator specialising in health affairs.
She expressed her deepest condolences over the passing of Dr Icha and expressed hope that law enforcement agencies would thoroughly investigate the alleged intimidation professionally, transparently, and justly.
Previously, information circulated on social media, such as X, stating that Dr Icha was treating a paediatric patient who was a victim of a snakebite at Leona Kefamenanu Hospital, North Central Timor. During the treatment of the patient, Dr Icha was allegedly intimidated by Norbertus Tubani and Therensius Lazakar, who are members of the patient’s family.
The incident allegedly caused trauma to Dr Icha, necessitating intensive medical care. On 26 June 2026, Dr Icha was reported to have passed away.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Bureau of Communication and Public Information at the Ministry of Health, Aji Muhawarman, stated that the Ministry expresses its deepest condolences on the death of Dr Icha and is responding by conducting a thorough investigation into the alleged intimidation experienced by the deceased.
Aji noted that the Directorate General of Health Human Resources and the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Health are currently in the process of handling this case.
