There must be no room for preferential practices that undermine the principles of the correctional system.

he DPR Commission XIII is committed to overseeing the case involving findings of luxury facilities at the Class IIA Cibinong Correctional Institution in West Java, in a transparent and accountable manner.

Deputy Chair of Commission XIII, Dewi Asmara, stated that these findings reflect structural issues that require comprehensive reform. Consequently, Commission XIII will ensure that legal processes and internal investigations proceed without discrimination.

“There must be no room for preferential practices that undermine the principles of the correctional system,” Dewi said in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday.

Commission XIII, she added, has scheduled a visit to the Cibinong Prison on Wednesday (30/9). The visit is intended to follow up on discrepancies between the findings of the Indonesian Ombudsman and the inspections conducted by the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas).

Dewi emphasised that Commission XIII is committed to driving better correctional governance reforms to realise a prison system that is clean, humane, and just.

“We appreciate the swift actions taken by Ditjenpas. However, this is only the beginning. Commission XIII will continue to oversee this until it is resolved, including ensuring that the Indonesian Ombudsman can present field facts fully in the appropriate forum,” she said.

During the meeting, Mashudi explained the progress of the Ditjenpas internal team in following up on the Ombudsman’s inspection results. He also presented the preliminary findings obtained by Ditjenpas.

According to him, the full inspection results will be submitted by the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services on Thursday (1/10).
