Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Commission XII will deploy a team to directly inspect the PT Jababeka Tbk area in Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, West Java, following allegations of environmental issues within the estate.

Bambang Haryadi, Deputy Chairman of Commission XII DPR RI, stated in Jakarta on Tuesday, highlighted suspicions of data engineering and manipulation regarding laboratory test results for wastewater quality standards flowing from the Jababeka area.

Bambang asserted that the practice of manipulating environmental laboratory data constitutes a criminal act that falsifies national statutory provisions.

“We intend to summon the laboratory involved. This is unprecedented. Data that was originally outside the prescribed thresholds was suddenly altered to show compliance with regulations,” said Bambang after presiding over a Hearing of the Environmental Working Committee at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (7/9).

The meeting was convened to follow up on a complaint from PT Mastertama Adhi Propertindo (MAP) regarding industrial waste pipe issues produced by PT Jababeka Tbk.

Commission XII of the DPR RI is the parliamentary commission responsible for the energy and mineral resources (ESDM) sector, the environment, and investment.

Supervisory findings from the Indonesian Ministry of Environment/Environmental Management Agency (KLH/BPLK) also revealed environmental problems in Jababeka, in addition to the manipulation of waste test laboratory data and the neglect of old, massive pipes lacking regular maintenance.

Firstly, there are discrepancies in environmental documentation. Industrial tenant activities in the Jababeka Industrial Estate Phase II have been identified that are not covered by environmental impact assessment (AMDAL) documents or approvals.

Secondly, there are violations in waste management governance. Jababeka Infrastruktur, as the estate manager, was found to lack a temporary waste collection site (TPS), which legally contravenes the mandate of Law Number 18 of 2008 concerning Waste Management.

On the other hand, Markus Nababan, legal counsel for PT Mastertama Adhi Propertindo (MAP), expressed appreciation for the firmness of the Commission XII DPR RI leadership.

“For a long time, Jababeka’s waste pipes have been penetrating our officially certified land without any maintenance,” said Markus.

Consequently, his party welcomes the results of the Commission XII DPR RI hearing, which recommends a thorough investigation into PT Media Lab and threatens the suspension of Jababeka’s AMDAL operational permits.

“Furthermore, the leadership of Commission XII stated that if these findings are proven true, the Commission itself will report this matter to the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) or other law enforcement agencies. This is our greatest hope after struggling since 2020 to reclaim our rightful rights,” he added.
