Wakil Ketua Komisi VIII DPR Singgih Januratmoko has highlighted the case of a 15-year-old girl in Sampang, East Java, who was raped by 27 men, demanding that all perpetrators be brought to court immediately. “This is not an ordinary crime, it is an extraordinary crime that destroys a child’s future,” Singgih told reporters on Tuesday. He urged the police to move quickly to apprehend the 14 remaining suspects on the wanted list. “We ask the police to act swiftly. Do not give these fugitives any safe space. They must be dragged before the law immediately,” he stated. The Golkar Party legislator called on law enforcement to apply the child protection law to its fullest extent, seeking the heaviest possible sentence because the victim is a minor and the crime was committed jointly. Singgih also reminded authorities that the victim must receive trauma healing and protection, requesting the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection and local social services to ensure intensive psychological support and guarantees of physical and social security. “The state is obliged to restore the victim’s condition while ensuring justice is upheld as fairly as possible. We will continue to monitor the progress of this case with relevant agencies until all 27 perpetrators are behind bars,” he said. Police have so far arrested 13 suspects, with the latest, identified by the initial W (17), detained on Sunday night near the Trunojoyo town square in Sampang.
