DPR Commission VIII Appreciates Tangerang's Preparedness for Potential Disasters

The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VIII has expressed appreciation for the Tangerang City Disaster Management Agency’s (BPBD) readiness in facing potential hydrometeorological disasters, including drought conditions, as well as its mitigation steps, handling procedures, and cross-sector coordination to protect the community.

Wahidin Halim, a member of Commission VIII of the DPR, stated in Tangerang on Friday that the handling system implemented by the Tangerang City Government is functioning well and becoming increasingly modern. “This is good; the handling is systematic and operational. It is much more modern and much better,” said Wahidin at the Tangerang City BPBD Headquarters.

Tangerang Deputy Mayor Maryono stated that the Tangerang City Government continues to strengthen disaster preparedness through coordination with various parties. These steps include communication with the BBWS (Water Resources Management Agency), Perumda Tirta Benteng, the community through Disaster Alert Villages (Kampung Siaga Bencana), and support from the central government.

“We are committed to providing maximum service to the community, particularly regarding disaster handling and mitigation. For the response time, which is nationally set at 15 minutes, Tangerang City is able to achieve 10 minutes,” said Maryono.

He also expressed appreciation for the support provided by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) to the Tangerang City BPBD. “This support is vital to strengthening disaster handling capacity, while ensuring that the needs of the community can be responded to quickly when emergency conditions occur,” added Maryono.

The Head of the Tangerang City BPBD, Mahdiar, added that the agency will propose requirements for additional equipment needed to strengthen operations, including logistics vehicles and communication facilities.

Meanwhile, to face potential drought, the Tangerang City BPBD continues to coordinate with regional agencies and relevant parties. One of the measures currently being studied is the strengthening of water sources through deep wells in several sub-districts. “These efforts are expected to be part of long-term mitigation, while simultaneously strengthening community resilience in facing drought conditions,” he said.
