The Deputy Chair of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Chusnunia Chalim, believes that the marketing concept for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through the tenants available at Sarinah, Jakarta, needs to be duplicated by other regions outside of Jakarta.

She stated that the primary challenge currently facing MSMEs is marketing. According to her, Sarinah has now become a hub for MSMEs with a standard that is accessible to the general public.

“This is a source of hope for our MSMEs, because our MSMEs have long struggled with marketing issues,” Chuscunia said during a working visit by Commission VII of the DPR RI to Sarinah, Jakarta, on Thursday.

Because MSMEs face marketing difficulties, she noted that domestic products ultimately lose out to imported goods. Despite issues regarding pricing, she emphasised that all parties must demonstrate support for MSMEs.

“If we are talking about supporting local products, Sarinah serves as a concrete example,” she said.

She noted that Sarinah hosts approximately 500 MSME tenants. However, she added that Indonesia has around 65 million MSMEs that also require similar strategic consideration.

Furthermore, she urged MSME owners who have achieved success after appearing at Sarinah to assist in improving the quality of MSMEs that are still in the developmental stage.

“Perhaps the success stories found here can be shared with other MSMEs that have not yet experienced the benefits of having access to sell in a venue like this,” she concluded.
