Tangerang (ANTARA) - DPR Commission VII Chairman Saleh Partaonan Daulay stressed that national standardisation plays a crucial role amid rapid industrial, product, and service development in society to safeguard quality, safety, and competitiveness of Indonesian products.

Speaking during a working visit by the Commission’s National Standardisation (SNI) Task Force at the National Standardisation Agency (BSN) in South Tangerang on Monday, he said the BSN is a strategic element, prompting Commission VII to form a National Standardisation Working Committee.

The committee, he explained, is tasked with maximising the function, duties, and benefits of national standardisation to ensure products and services in circulation strictly meet established standards.

Saleh noted that developed nations enforce stringent standards for products entering or circulating within their territories; for instance, goods entering the United States must meet specific requirements before being marketed.

‘Indonesia must therefore strengthen its national standardisation system to ensure domestic product quality is assured and capable of competing globally,’ he said.

Additionally, Commission VII aims to ensure transparency and readiness of companies partnering with BSN for testing and certification processes.

According to Saleh, the involvement of various stakeholders is vital to bolstering the quality, competitiveness, and capability of national products.

‘We hope the formation of the National Standardisation Task Force will be a concrete step to reinforce Indonesia’s standardisation system while providing better protection for consumers,’ he added.
