Nunukan, North Kalimantan (ANTARA) - DPR Commission VII member Rahmawati has praised the Labang Border Crossing Point (PLBN) in Lumbis Pansiangan, Nunukan, North Kalimantan, as a symbol of the state’s presence at the Indonesia-Malaysia border.

“I was surprised to find such a sturdy, beautiful building with artistic value. From here, you can see the river and mountains, which serve as Indonesia’s front yard,” she said in Nunukan on Sunday.

Rahmawati made the remarks during a working visit to the PLBN Labang on Friday (29 May). She noted the building’s robust design and harmonious integration with the surrounding natural beauty.

She added that the PLBN Labang provides adequate facilities for officials and the public, including electricity, clean water, and other supporting infrastructure.

“I am pleased that around forty staff at the PLBN are locals,” she said.

She hopes the PLBN Labang will not only serve as a transit point for cross-border movement but also strengthen border surveillance.

“With this building, we affirm that the border is truly guarded,” she stated.

To reach the site, Rahmawati and her delegation undertook a seven- to eight-hour overland journey from Tanjung Selor to Mansalong, followed by a four- to eight-hour river trip using a motorised boat.

It is known that the PLBN Labang, constructed and inaugurated during the presidency of the seventh Indonesian President Joko Widodo on 2 October 2024, is unique and possibly the only one in Indonesia where transit is exclusively by river and travellers use boats.
