DPR Commission VI Urges Sugar Mills to Maximise Sugarcane Absorption from Farmers
The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VI is urging sugar mills to maximise the absorption of sugarcane harvests from farmers to improve overall sugar productivity.
Anggia Erna Rini, Chairperson of Commission VI—which oversees trade, trade zones, competition supervision, and State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs)—stated that alongside maximising sugarcane absorption, the domestic sugar industry must be continuously supported to ensure the welfare of sugarcane farmers.
“If the mills perform well and productivity is high, the absorption of farmers’ sugarcane will also be high. We in Commission VI support the domestic sugar industry,” she said in a statement received in Kediri on Sunday.
During a recent visit to the Ngadirejo Sugar Mill in Kediri Regency, she personally observed the processing of sugarcane into white crystal sugar. “I observed that the Ngadirejo Sugar Mill is performing well, and its output can increase from previous levels,” she added.
Meanwhile, the President Director of PT Sinergi Gula Nusantara (PT SGN), Mahmudi, expressed his appreciation for the DPR’s visit to the Ngadirejo Sugar Mill. He also welcomed the support and encouragement provided to PT SGN in sugar production, particularly regarding sugar trade regulations, which helps increase current productivity and motivates farmers.
