DPR Commission IV Chair Titiek Soeharto Harvests Rice in Klaten, Yields 10 Tonnes Per Hectare
The House of Representatives Commission IV conducted a specific working visit to Desa Wonosari, Trucuk District, Klaten Regency, on Friday, led by its chair, Siti Hediati Hariyadi, also known as Titiek Soeharto. The visit centred on a harvest celebration for a 30-hectare rice demonstration plot, attended by the Regent of Klaten, regional leadership coordination forum members, the Director General of Agricultural Infrastructure and Facilities from the Ministry of Agriculture, the President Director of Bulog, the President Director of PT Pupuk Indonesia, farmer groups, and agricultural extension workers. Titiek Soeharto, alongside fellow Commission IV members and the Regent, symbolically harvested the paddy using sickles and a combine harvester. The demonstration plot was cultivated through a partnership between the Ngudi Makmur, Sedyo Makmur, and Sedyo Tentrem farmer groups and PT Langgeng Asri Makmur Klaten, which provided petroganic fertiliser to the partner farmers. The harvest yielded 10 tonnes of rice per hectare. Klaten Regent Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo stated that the presence of Commission IV provided encouragement to boost agricultural development in the region. He noted that Klaten, as a food barn in Central Java, has 29,670 hectares of raw rice fields and a production target of 378,303 tonnes of milled dry grain this year, with a planting expansion target of 99,401 hectares for 2026. He expressed gratitude for government assistance programmes including seeds, production facilities, agricultural machinery, and subsidised fertiliser policies. Titiek Soeharto congratulated the farmer groups on their successful harvest and emphasised that President Prabowo Subianto has made food self-sufficiency a strategic national agenda to strengthen sovereignty amid global economic challenges, climate change, and geopolitical dynamics. She highlighted Central Java and Klaten’s vital role in maintaining national rice supplies and stressed that achieving food self-sufficiency must be accompanied by improvements in farmer welfare, with policies designed to protect rather than harm farmers. She concluded that the harvest strengthened the commitment to building a productive, modern agricultural sector that sides with farmers.
