Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Vice Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, Ahmad Sahroni, is urging the government to re-examine the granting of parole to the convict in the sexual violence case at the Shiddiqiyauyah Islamic Boarding School in Jombang, Moch Subchi Azal Tsani, alias Bechi.

“I hope the relevant parties, particularly the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services, can review this parole. It should be aligned with the court’s decision. We must not allow the victims to be hurt twice,” he stated in a briefing received in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Sahroni expressed regret regarding Bechi’s parole. The legislator, who focuses on law enforcement, believes the release was granted too prematurely, especially considering the individual’s seven-year prison sentence.

“I remember this case very well in 2022; I personally monitored the process and witnessed the arrest, which involved resistance against the police. The case is extremely serious and has left deep trauma for both the victims and the public,” he said.

According to him, the sentence against Bechi should be served in accordance with the court’s verdict. Such a sentence serves not only to punish the perpetrator but also to provide a sense of justice for the victims and act as a stern warning to prevent similar offences from recurring.

“Particularly as sexual violence cases in educational environments are currently prevalent, we must not be soft on perpetrators like this,” he added.

Bechi was sentenced to seven years in prison by the Surabaya District Court for the sexual abuse of students in 2022. His parole, effective from 20 August 2025, has recently come under scrutiny due to perceptions of a lack of transparency.

Previously, the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) under the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services (Imipas) stated that Bechi’s parole was granted based on existing legal provisions.

Confirmed in Jakarta on Monday (21/9), the Head of the Public Communication Working Group of Ditjenpas, Budi Waskito, noted that Bechi’s parole was based on the Decree of the Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services Number PAS-1429.PK.05.03 of 2025, dated 15 August 2025.

“The status is parole, not an absolute release. Parole is granted based on statutory provisions and the requirements that must be met by inmates,” he said.

He added that the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services did not provide any special treatment to Bechi.

“Every inmate who meets the requirements for the integration programme is processed according to the applicable regulations,” he concluded.
