DPR Commission III Stresses Corruption Cases Involve Individuals, Not Institutions
Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) has confirmed it is paying close attention to the legal process surrounding the coal, ASABRI and Krakatau Steel corruption cases. Commission III chairman Habiburokhman asserted that the cases widely reported to be implicating law-enforcement officials (APH) concern rogue individuals rather than institutions.
A press conference was held at the Attorney General’s Office complex in South Jakarta on Saturday (11/7/2026). Attending were Commission III chairman Habiburokhman, deputy chairmen Ahmad Sahroni and Rano Alfath, the National Police’s Anti-Corruption Task Force chief Inspector General Totok Suharyanto, Greater Jakarta Police chief Commissioner General Asep Edi Suheri, and acting Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes Rudi Margono.
“There are several things to announce. First, Commission III has taken the initiative to ensure that the cases widely reported in recent days proceed within the legal corridor and are thoroughly investigated under the law,” said Habiburokhman.
Habiburokhman affirmed that his side would safeguard against any actions exceeding legal authority between legal institutions while the investigation proceeds.
“Second, we also want to ensure there is no excess, friction or conflict between institutions in handling these cases. Because however you look at it, these are cases involving rogue individuals — people, individuals — not institutions,” he said.
The President’s attention
Earlier, Greater Jakarta Police chief of public relations Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto affirmed that the investigation into alleged corruption in the coal, ASABRI and Krakatau Steel cases has drawn the attention of President Prabowo.
“This has the President’s attention — these alleged corruption cases are of concern to the police, who are carrying out the disclosure and investigation process. This series of searches is part of the investigation process to seek and collect evidence,” said Budi Hermanto following a search at Cafe de’Clan in Cipete, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (8/7).
Budi said the searches were part of efforts to uncover alleged coal corruption at PLN, which triggered blackouts across Sumatra recently, as well as the ASABRI and Krakatau Steel cases. The corruption cases under investigation encompass bribery, gratification and money laundering.
“The Anti-Corruption Task Force together with the Greater Jakarta Police are investigating alleged corruption cases covering bribery, gratification and money laundering. Searches are being carried out simultaneously at several locations, including here at Cafe de’Clan and Koin Money Changer. This relates to alleged corruption in the PLN coal blackout, ASABRI and Krakatau Steel,” he said.
