DPR Commission III Stresses Corruption Cases Involve Individuals, Not Institutions

The House of Representatives Commission III has confirmed it is paying close attention to the legal process regarding corruption cases involving coal, ASABRI, and Krakatau Steel. Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman stressed that the cases, which have prominently implicated law enforcement officers, relate to rogue individuals rather than institutions. A press conference was held at the Attorney General’s Office complex in South Jakarta on Saturday. In attendance were Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman, Deputy Chairmen Ahmad Sahroni and Rano Alfath, the Head of the Police Corruption Eradication Corps Inspector General Totok Suharyanto, Metro Jaya Police Chief Commissioner General Asep Edi Suheri, and the Acting Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes Rudi Margono. “There are several points to announce. Firstly, Commission III has taken the initiative to ensure that the cases widely reported recently proceed within legal corridors and are thoroughly investigated according to the law,” said Habiburokhman. He affirmed that his party would oversee the process to prevent any actions exceeding legal authority between law enforcement institutions during the investigation. “Secondly, we also want to ensure there is no excess, friction, or clashes between institutions regarding the handling of these cases. Because, after all, these are cases related to rogue individuals, to people, to individuals, not to institutions,” he stated. The Head of Public Relations for Metro Jaya Police, Chief Commissioner Budi Hermanto, previously emphasised that the investigation into alleged corruption in coal, ASABRI, and Krakatau Steel has the attention of President Prabowo. “This is the President’s attention regarding alleged corruption cases, which are a concern for the police to carry out disclosure and investigation processes. This series of searches is part of the investigation process in seeking and collecting evidence to fulfil the investigation requirements,” said Budi Hermanto following a search at Cafe de’Clan in Cipete, South Jakarta, on Wednesday. Budi stated the searches were part of uncovering alleged coal corruption at PLN, which triggered a blackout in Sumatra some time ago, as well as cases at ASABRI and Krakatau Steel. The corruption cases under investigation include bribery, gratuities, and money laundering. “The Corruption Eradication Corps together with Metro Jaya Police are investigating alleged corruption cases including bribery, gratuities, and money laundering. Several locations are currently being searched simultaneously, including this location at Cafe de’Clan and Koin Money Changer. This is related to the alleged corruption in the PLN coal blackout, ASABRI, and Krakatau Steel,” he said.
