DPR Commission III Member Supports BNN Proposal to Ban Vapes
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG - A member of the DPR RI Commission III, Safaruddin, supports the proposal from the Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) RI to include a point banning vapes in the Draft Law on Narcotics and Psychotropics. He hopes that point will soon be incorporated into the said law. “Yesterday, the BNN Head held an RDP with Commission III, and I think it shouldn’t be allowed, it really shouldn’t be, even though there was some pro and con earlier because this is an UMKM product. But whatever, if it’s already categorised as prohibited, then it can’t be,” he said after a working visit to the West Java Police Headquarters, Thursday (9/4/2026). He stated that the BNN head has proposed this and it will soon be included in the new law. Furthermore, field supervision will be carried out by BNN. “The supervision will be handled by BNN, and also by narcotics units in the police resorts, that’s who will do the supervision,” he said. Safaruddin added that the working visit to the West Java Police was to check the implementation of the latest Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) and Criminal Code (KUHP). He said they received reports that it is running well. “So everything is going smoothly,” he said. He hopes that cases in West Java will proceed without obstacles. Previously, the Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Suyudi Ario Seto, proposed a ban on electronic cigarettes or vapes along with their liquids to be regulated in the Draft Law (RUU) on Narcotics and Psychotropics. He said Indonesia is now facing the phenomenon of massive circulation of narcotic substances in vape form. Countries in the ASEAN region such as Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, and Laos, according to him, have already taken steps to ban the circulation of vapes.
