DPR Commission III Invites Students, Advocates, and Academics to Discuss Asset Forfeiture Bill

Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) is currently deliberating the Asset Forfeiture Bill, and will invite a number of parties to open up participation in the process.

“To draft a law, we start with the preparation stage. We were criticised recently — ‘Why wasn’t the public involved in the drafting?’ So this time we are involving them to the fullest. The public is involved from the drafting stage; we are asking for their input,” said Habiburokhman, Chair of Commission III, at a press conference at the DPR building in Jakarta on Monday (13 July 2026).

In the near future, Commission III will invite a number of university student executive bodies (BEM), including that of Trisakti University.

“Among those who will soon provide input is the Trisakti BEM. I have already spoken with its president, Brother Putra, and they have agreed to come here,” he said.

“And there are several other BEMs we are giving the opportunity to contribute,” he added.

In addition, Commission III will seek views from academics both at home and abroad, including doctoral students at the University of Cambridge and King’s College London, as well as a number of legal experts and advocates.

“Ahmad Novindri Aji Sukma, a postgraduate PhD student at the University of Cambridge, England — because we want a comparison with other countries. There is Professor Dr Dadang Herli Saputra, Rector of Banten Jaya University in Serang, and Professor Faisal Santiago, an academic at Borobudur University,” he said.

“We are also inviting Mr Ari Yusuf Amir, an advocate, and Mr Hotman Paris Hutapea, an advocate, to give their views on this asset forfeiture law,” he continued.

Habiburokhman stressed that deliberation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill is Commission III’s priority. For that reason, the commission has not yet scheduled public hearings (RDPU) on other draft bills for the time being.

“So we are pressing ahead at full speed. For now, no RDPU on other bills has been scheduled apart from this asset forfeiture bill, because it is truly our priority,” he said.
