DPR Commission III: Do Not Obstruct Coal Corruption Investigators

A member of the Indonesian House of Representatives’ Commission III, Soedeson Tandra, has voiced strong support for the National Police’s Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortas Tipidkor) in its investigation into alleged corruption in coal supply, which triggered mass blackouts across several regions of Indonesia. Soedeson emphasised that firm police action is crucial as the case directly relates to President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita national agenda on energy self-sufficiency and security. “I fully support Kortas Tipidkor’s actions to thoroughly investigate this case,” Soedeson stated in Jakarta on Thursday, adding that anyone involved must be held legally accountable.

The legislator also warned all parties not to obstruct the investigation. The case, which was officially elevated to the investigation stage on 4 July 2026, concerns the procurement of coal supply for multiple Steam-Electric Power Stations (PLTU). Kortas Tipidkor Chief Inspector General Totok Suharyanto explained that the investigation focuses on alleged irregularities involving two companies, PT OBP and PT BRA, including suspected manipulation of coal quality and quantity documents. The resulting disruption to coal supply caused widespread blackouts in Sumatra, parts of Kalimantan, Central Java, East Java, and the Greater Jakarta area (Jabodetabek).

In related developments, investigators have seized substantial assets, including gold bars, foreign currency, and cash totalling Rp476 billion from a residence in Sentul, as well as Rp67.2 billion in cash from a café and money changer in Cipete, Central Jakarta. The Directorate General of Customs and Excise has also commented on the case, while the Metro Jaya Regional Police have issued a warning against any attempts to hinder the investigation.
