DPR Commission III Confirms No Presidential Letter on National Police Chief Replacement

The House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III has confirmed that information circulating regarding a Presidential Letter (Surpres) to the DPR concerning the replacement of National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo is untrue, labelling it a hoax. Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman urged the public to be wiser and not be influenced by unverified strategic issues to prevent public unrest. “We need to clarify that it is not true that there is a Presidential Letter to the DPR regarding the replacement of the National Police Chief,” Habiburokhman stated in Jakarta on Wednesday (5/8/2026). The Gerindra Party politician explained that Commission III had conducted a thorough internal investigation. Furthermore, the DPR leadership had directly confirmed with the State Secretariat and the Presidential Palace to verify the issue. “The results of our checks show that there has indeed been no submission of a Presidential Letter concerning the replacement of the National Police Chief. The DPR leadership also confirmed with the relevant parties at the Palace, and the result is the same: there is no such Presidential Letter,” he said. Habiburokhman expressed hope that this confirmation would put an end to various speculations among the public. He urged the public to always prioritise valid and accountable official information. According to constitutional mechanisms, the appointment and dismissal of the National Police Chief require the President to submit a Presidential Letter to the DPR for a fit and proper test by Commission III before seeking approval in a Plenary Session.
