DPR Commission III Calls for Police Investigation into Tramadol Sales Activities
Jakarta — Deputy Chair of the House of Representatives’ Commission III Ahmad Sahroni has called on police to follow up on reports of tramadol sales locations in the East Jakarta region.
According to Sahroni, the spread of tramadol within the community poses serious dangers, as it can cause both health and economic harm to the population.
“I urge the police to move quickly in accommodating reports related to tramadol sales because its effects can create severe addiction for users. There should be no tolerance — reports should be immediately acted upon,” said Sahroni in an official press statement issued in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Sahroni believes that tramadol distribution must be prevented at the source to prevent widespread proliferation. He has therefore urged the National Narcotics Board (BNN) to classify tramadol as a psychotropic substance.
With such a classification, both the BNN and police would be able to intensify efforts to prevent tramadol circulation from source to end-user.
“Once it is officially declared, distribution will certainly be much more strictly prevented. On the other hand, police should not only shut down the shops but also investigate who the owners and suppliers are. The distribution network should be dismantled so it does not continue to circulate in the community,” Sahroni explained.
Sahroni also expressed appreciation for residents who have taken action against tramadol distribution activities. He hopes that the public’s initiative in tackling this issue receives serious attention from police authorities.
For context, a viral video showed several shops allegedly selling tramadol in the Kalisari and Pekayon areas of Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta, being pelted with firecrackers by residents. Akbar, who recorded the video (not his real name), stated on Monday (9 March) that he participated in throwing the firecrackers, claiming that the action was taken because previous community reports to police had allegedly never been acted upon.
