DPR Commission III Asserts Asset Forfeiture Bill is Super Priority, Vows Full Commitment
The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III has continued discussions regarding the Asset Forfeiture Bill through consultations with legal experts and various advocates. During the meeting, Commission III emphasised that the Asset Forfeiture Bill is a primary priority.
The meeting was held at the DPR Commission III office in Jakarta on Wednesday (23/09/2026), presided over by the Chairman of Commission III, Habiburokman.
Attendees included legal expert Yerifkho Alfredo Manurung and Luthfi Yazid from the Indonesian Advocates Movement Council.
Habiburokman initially emphasised that the Asset Forfeiture Bill is part of a ‘super priority’ agenda for Commission III. He asserted that discussions will continue even during the parliamentary recess period.
“To be clear, we are all out on this super priority. Even during the upcoming recess, we will continue to hold public hearings to absorb public aspirations,” said Habiburokman.
He stated that Commission III will proceed with discussions despite an upcoming eight-day recess. “In fact, if possible, we may extend this, working into the night to ensure public aspirations are heard,” he added.
Addressing criticisms that the Asset Forfeiture Bill is only being revisited long after its initial proposal in 2008, he argued that it is unfair to judge the current parliament’s performance based on previous terms.
“It is unfair to generalise the performance of the DPR from one period to another. Sixty-five per cent of the members currently in Commission III are new. Furthermore, the leadership structure and the degree of representation (AKD) in Commission III have changed almost entirely,” he explained.
“Therefore, if the current members are asked, ‘Why is this only being discussed now when it was proposed in 2008?’, the reality is that no one currently in Commission III was here in 2008. When we entered this term in 2024, our first priority was the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP). We prioritised KUHAP because it has been proposed since the beginning of the Reformation era, not just since 2008. KUHAP is the fundamental foundation for criminal law enforcement,” he continued.
He noted that once the KUHAP matters are finalised, Commission III will move directly to the Asset Forfeiture Bill.
“So, regarding the Asset Forfeiture Bill and the DPR, what we can be held accountable for is what we undertake during our current term. God willing, we ensure that by 15 December, we will have passed it in the Plenary Session,” he concluded.
