Jakarta (ANTARA) - Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives has approved the formation of a Working Committee (Panja) to discuss the third amendment to the 2002 Police Law (RUU Polri).

Habiburokhman, Chairman of Commission III, will lead the committee, which comprises 25 members from the commission, including himself.

Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas stated that the bill aims to strengthen institutional governance of the police through enhanced transparency, accountability, and human rights protection in all operations. He added that it also seeks to bolster internal oversight via investigation supervision, inspectorate, and professional security functions, including the use of technology and scientific advancements to modernise and ensure fairness within the police force.

“The government welcomes the bill and is prepared to conduct thorough and comprehensive discussions with the DPR in accordance with existing legal procedures,” he said.
