DPR Commission II to Gather Aspirations from Non-Parliamentary Parties for Election Law Revision

The DPR RI Commission II is set to conduct socialisation and roadshows to several non-parliamentary political parties and community organisations to strengthen input for the discussion of the Election Law Revision (RUU Pemilu), following directives from the Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad.

The Chairman of Commission II, Muhammad Rifqinizamy Karsayuda, stated that this step is being taken to enrich the substance of the Election Law revision through the involvement of various community groups. “In the near future, we will conduct roadshows to non-parliamentary political parties as well as various other community organisations to obtain input for the Election Law Revision,” Rifqi said in a statement on Wednesday (3/6).

According to Rifqi, the DPR RI Commission II previously held consultation and coordination meetings with the Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI for Politics and Law, Sufint Dasco Ahmad, regarding the direction of the election rule revision discussions. During the meeting, Commission II received instructions to continue gathering various inputs from all relevant parties to enrich the material of the Election Law revision.

He emphasised that the process of absorbing public aspirations also clarifies that the drafting of the Election Law revision remains the authority of Commission II of the DPR RI and is not being taken over as a government initiative. “This also reinforces the stance of the DPR RI, that the preparation of the Election Law RUU draft remains the duty of Commission II DPR RI,” said Rifqi.

In addition to gathering public input, Commission II DPR RI will also establish intensive communication with the government from the beginning of the discussions to ensure a shared vision regarding the substance and the timeline for the revision.

Previously, Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that all political parties within the DPR RI are ready to discuss the Election Law revision, both in terms of the academic paper and changes to specific articles. “We have just met with the leadership of Commission II. The leadership of Commission II stated that for the Election Law revision, Commission II from all existing parties is ready to discuss changes, both the academic paper and the draft of the articles that will be amended,” said Dasco at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta.

Dasco also mentioned that the DPR RI Commission II will soon open space for public participation to gather community aspirations regarding the election rule revision, asserting that the readiness of the DPR RI regarding the Election Law revision should not be doubted.

Furthermore, Mardani Ali Sera, a member of Commission II from the PKS Faction, revealed that the discussion of the Election Law revision is targeted to begin between July and August 2026.
