DPR Commission II Responds to Surya Paloh: Fair Elections Are Every Party's Dream
Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission II, Dede Yusuf, has responded to a statement by NasDem Party Chairman Surya Paloh, who said he did not mind the model for the 2029 election as long as it was conducted sportingly. Dede said that honest and fair elections are the hope of all parties. “I think every party’s dream is for elections to be conducted honestly and fairly, that is how democracy should be,” Dede Yusuf said when contacted on Thursday (23/7/2026). However, Dede said the election model must be agreed upon by all parties. For this reason, Commission II is currently still conducting exploratory discussions. “It is just that the election model must later be agreed upon by all parties,” he said. The Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Party said the most important thing in the upcoming election model is to ensure that the people’s votes are not wasted. According to him, this matter must be a concern. “And that the people’s votes are not wasted in large numbers as in previous elections,” he added. Surya Paloh’s statement was made in response to the ongoing discussion of the Election Bill. He admitted that he did not mind whatever election model or system would be used in the future, as long as the competition was conducted sportingly.
