DPR Commission II Ensures Working Group for Election Law Revision Will Be Formed Before Recess

The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Commission II will soon establish a Working Group (Panja) for the revision of the Election Law (RUU Pemilu). The formation of the Panja is planned to take place before the parliamentary recess period.

“Commission II has received information from the leadership that we will decide on the Panja at the end of this legislative session,” said the Vice Chairman of Commission II DPR, Aria Bima, at the DPR building in Senavi, Jakarta, on Tuesday (22/09/2026).

Aria Bima stated that feedback regarding the Election Law revision has been quite comprehensive so far. Commission II, in collaboration with the DPR Expertise Agency, has formulated approximately 12 to 14 issues that are currently being incorporated into the draft academic paper.

“Regarding the input, it is indeed quite comprehensive. Together with the Expertise Agency, more than 12 to 14 problems have begun to be formulated in the draft for the academic paper,” he said.

“And we are starting to break them down into several articles within the Election Law, Regional Head Elections (Pilkada), and Presidential Elections (Pilpres),” he added.

Aria aims for the Panja to be formed before the recess period. It is noted that the closing of the first session of the 2026-2027 legislative year is scheduled for Thursday, 8 October 2026.

“Before the recess, God willing, we ensure the formation of the Panja to prepare the draft for the proposed amendments to the Election Law,” he concluded.
