DPR Commission I urges Indonesia to stay vigilant against worst-case global conflict
Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Commission I, Dave Laksono, said the Indonesian government must continue to strengthen its defence from economic to national security aspects as tensions in the Middle East rose following Israel and the United States’ strikes on Iran. Dave said Indonesia must be prepared to face the worst-case scenarios amid the escalation of the global conflict.
‘I assess that the statement issued last night reflects the government’s seriousness in anticipating the increasingly complex geopolitics, particularly the escalation of conflict in the Middle East. This condition underlines the need for Indonesia to be in a state of readiness to face various possibilities, both from the economic and national security perspectives,’ he said when contacted on Wednesday, 4 March 2026.
Dave said the urgent priority at present is energy and food resilience. According to him, disruption to global oil and gas supplies would affect this.
‘Within that framework, energy and food resilience become urgent concerns. Disruptions to global oil and gas supplies could affect domestic energy price stability, while the global food distribution chain could also be impacted. Maintaining the availability and affordability of these two sectors is a crucial step to ensure that the public remains shielded from external volatility,’ he said.
He also urged Indonesia to strengthen and broaden its ties with trading partners. ‘By expanding the scope of cooperation, Indonesia can reduce dependence on regions prone to conflict, thereby maintaining the sustainability of national economic growth,’ he added.
In addition, Dave called on the government to pay attention to national security. He urged improvements to defence infrastructure and cyber security.
‘Indonesia must prepare for all possibilities, including the worst-case scenario, while remaining committed to a foreign policy that is non-aligned and actively seeks global peace,’ he said.
‘With integrated steps, Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives hopes that Indonesia can maintain national resilience while also playing an active role in promoting peace at the global level,’ he continued.
Earlier, President Prabowo Subianto gathered past presidents and vice presidents up to the chairmen of political parties to discuss the increasingly heated global geopolitical developments, including the Iran-Israel escalation. In that meeting, the government assured that Indonesia is ready to face potential global crises, particularly in the energy and food sectors.
‘The President explained various aspects related to geopolitical developments and Indonesia’s readiness to face all the dynamics of the global scene, particularly in the context of energy and other issues,’ said Energy and Mineral Resources Minister and Golkar chairman, Bahlil Lahadalia, after the meeting at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday, 3 March.
