DPR Commission I Member Supports Komdigi Action on Amien Rais Accusation Video
Golkar faction member of DPR Commission I, Nurul Arifin, supports the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi)‘s steps in addressing the controversy over a video of statements by Amien Rais, Chairman of the Majelis Syura of Partai Ummat. According to her, Komdigi’s action in handling Amien Rais’s statements without pursuing legal channels is appropriate. “Komdigi’s step is already correct, namely carrying out administrative enforcement in accordance with its authority. This is important to keep our digital public space conducive without having to immediately criminalise,” Nurul stated in her remarks on Monday (4/5/2026). Nurul views the decision taken by Minister Meutya Hafid as a form of safeguarding the democratic climate. She reminds that freedom of expression must be accompanied by responsibility. “Freedom of expression is indeed guaranteed, but every statement, especially those of a personal and sensitive nature, must be accountable. It should not develop into slander that harms others,” she said. She emphasised that political statements should focus on policy substance and public interest, not on personal issues unsupported by clear evidence. Nurul urged everyone to be wise in using digital space. “Our political discourse must be healthy and data-based. If not, what happens is the degradation of democracy’s quality because the public space is filled with unverifiable narratives,” Nurul continued. “We all have a responsibility to maintain the quality of democracy. Do not let the freedom we have be misused to spread information that may not be true,” she added. Previously, the video of Amien Rais’s statements regarding President Prabowo Subianto and State Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya went viral and has now disappeared from the Amien Rais Official YouTube channel. Initially, the video circulated widely on various social media. detikcom then traced the video. After investigation, it turned out to originate from the Amien Rais Official YouTube account. Then detikcom tried to download the video but failed. There was a notice stating the video was no longer available due to an official objection from the government. As of 13:51 WIB on Saturday (2/5), the video was no longer on the Amien Rais Official YouTube channel. General Chairman of Partai Ummat Ridho Rahmad spoke out regarding the video’s disappearance. Ridho said the video ’disappeared’ because it was restricted due to a legal complaint. “If you click the link, there’s a message that the video is restricted in Indonesia due to a legal complaint from the government,” said Partai Ummat General Chairman Ridho Rahmadi when contacted on Saturday (2/5).
