DPR Commends Background Checks and Home Visits in 2026 Supreme Court Justice Selection

House of Representatives Commission III has expressed appreciation for the selection process of Supreme Court justices, Ad Hoc Human Rights justices, and Ad Hoc Corruption Crime justices for the Supreme Court in 2026, organised by the Judicial Commission. Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman stated that the selection series, which took place from March to August 2026, represents one of the best editions in the history of the Judicial Commission. “From the leadership table, we convey the highest appreciation for the Judicial Commission’s work. At a glance, looking at the implementation report, and having monitored the process, I think it is not an exaggeration to say that this is one of the best Judicial Commission editions ever,” Habiburokhman said during a meeting with the selection committee at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (12/8).

Commission III member Abdullah highlighted the excellence of the background tracing and clarification methods used by the Judicial Commission, which extended to the candidates’ residences and work environments. “For me, that is very good because from there we can assess how a candidate interacts with their neighbours, for example, with their subordinates, with their work circle and surroundings, or with their family,” Abdullah said. According to him, this field investigation is crucial to ensure the selection process tests not only technical competency aspects but also the personal integrity of candidates as bastions of justice.

Judicial Commission Chairman Abdul Chair Ramadhan explained that the selection process, which resulted in 14 names passing on Friday (7/8), emphasised transparent, participatory, objective, and accountable aspects to build public trust. “We carry out clarification and refer to competency capabilities, both theoretically and practically,” Abdul Chair explained. The 14 names undergoing fit and proper tests at Commission III include candidates for the criminal chamber (Syamsul Arief, Sugiyanto, Sudharmawatiningsih, Dhifla Wiyani), civil chamber (Sobandi, Nurmaningsih), religious chamber (Musthofa, Mamat Ruhimat), and the special tax state administrative chamber (Maftuh Effendi, L.Y. Hari Sih Advianto, Yeheskiel Minggus T.). Meanwhile, the Ad Hoc human rights candidates are Edwin Partogi Pasaribu and Roki Panjaitan, and the Ad Hoc corruption candidate is Sudiyo.
